At first glance, LA GRADIVA seems to occupy familiar territory to other high school movies; the outcast girl, the underachieving stoner, the playboy jock. But as the film unfolds, those stereotypes fade away and each person in this class is revealed to be their own unique individual; flawed, full of contradictions and complexity. The film's attention shifts from external drama within the interpersonal dynamics to the more internal conflict of identity and discomfort within one's self-perception which so often defines the teenage years.
