Black Umfolosi is an award-winning a cappella singing and traditional dance group formed in 1982 by students committed to personal development and positive community impact. The group was established to preserve and revive Imbube culture, which at the time was at risk of being overshadowed by breakdancing and Western influences within African dance traditions.
Recognized as the most widely traveled group in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, Black Umfolosi has toured extensively both nationally and internationally, including performances across Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Asia. They have represented Zimbabwe at major international events such as the Universal Expos in Spain (1992) and Portugal (1998), and the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, while continuing their mission to educate global audiences about Zimbabwean and Southern African traditional music and dance.
