A fully equipped ceramic arts studio offering a broad array of classes and workshops for people of all skill levels and interests ages 7 and up. Also includes a retail store selling the unique pottery and sculptural work of 35+ local artists.
Open since 2009, Clayworx: Ceramic Arts Learning Centre (formerly known as the London Clay Art Centre) operates out of a beautifully renovated Victorian-era building in the heart of London’s historic Old East Village (OEV). As a charitable arts organization, Clayworx offers exceptional education programs in ceramic arts for all ages, an open clay studio for artists, and exciting community-building experiences with clay. Annually, they provide the space, equipment, services, and programs for thousands of people in our community from diverse backgrounds to learn about and practice the world's most ancient art form under the expert guidance and care of the artist-instructors: inspiring curiosity and discovery around clay and the ceramic arts. In addition, over 130 artists use the Clayworx studio to pursue ceramic art as passionate hobbyists, semi-professionals, and professional artists. Every day, in the classrooms, studios, retail store, and in the neighbourhood, they deepen the connection between people and clay with quality programs and exciting public art projects.
Guided by the talented artists at Clayworx, hundreds of Londoners have participated in hand-making tens of thousands of ceramic tiles for several exterior mosaics. These monumental works of public art have become iconic destinations of interest for tourists and the local community alike. Visit the Clayworx retail store at 664 Dundas Street, in the Old East Village and be inspired by a self-guided walking tour of many mind-blowing Clayworx mosaics: Celebrate Canada 150, OEV Wayfinding, Gateways, Indwell’s Embassy Commons and spot the new sidewalk installations throughout our beloved neighbourhood.
