LONDON, ON – The Games Organizing Committee announced today that the volunteer registration for the London 2020 Ontario Summer Games has officially opened. After hosting a successful Games in 2018, Londoners will once again have the opportunity to be involved in these multi-sport Games which will feature over 3,400 participants, competing in 19 different sports. Approximately 800 volunteers will be required when London welcomes the Games over the Civic holiday weekend, beginning on July 30th and running until August 2nd, 2020.
“At the heart of every significant event London has had the pleasure of hosting are passionate, and dedicated volunteers. We’re fortunate to live in a community where residents take such pride in their City, and sharing that enthusiasm with visitors from near and far. This represents a unique opportunity for Londoners to participate firsthand in a truly remarkable event, while at the same time, playing a vital role towards ensuring an equally memorable experience for athletes and spectators.”
–Ed Holder – Mayor, City of London
Interested candidates will be provided the opportunity to apply for a wide variety of volunteer roles within the various sports such as Triathlon, Sailing, Volleyball, Soccer, and many more. There is also a need for more administrative roles such as accreditation, transportation, security and Opening Ceremony to name a few. This is a unique chance to meet fellow Londoners, while gaining experience, volunteer hours, and to have fun, all while helping showcase our city to the rest of the province.
“We are so excited to be welcoming the Games back to London in 2020. During the 2018 Games it was incredible to see so many members of our community dedicating their time to make sure the athlete experience was top notch. I have no doubt that we will again see that same level of enthusiasm from our returning volunteers, and anyone who is volunteering for the first time. This year’s Games are shaping up to be a great experience for everyone involved!”
– Dave De Kelver - General Manager, London 2020 Ontario Summer Games
Those interested in volunteering, or looking for more information are asked to visit www.london2020.ca/volunteer, and submit a Volunteer Registration, where they will be asked more information on availability, areas of interest, and contact information. All volunteers will be provided a uniform to wear during their shifts and in order to be selected, a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required at a later date. Applying to volunteer does not guarantee selection and the Games Organizing Committee will be in touch once the recruitment window has closed.
“We are so fortunate to have such great volunteer support here in London and we expect this event to be no different. Over 3400 of Ontario’s top youth athletes, along with their families, will be traveling to town for these Games and we know Londoner’s and all our volunteers, will welcome them with open arms and showcase all our great city has to offer. With some many opportunities to get involved, there truly is something for everyone.”
