This special screening of Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Black Lives Lived Here: London Family Photos, 1910s–1960s. The film explores the life of Jackie Shane, a groundbreaking Black trans woman and soul singer whose electrifying performances shaped Toronto’s music scene in the 1960s and included memorable appearances in London throughout her career. Her story reflects creativity, resilience, and trailblazing artistry that helped shape Canada’s cultural landscape and continues to inspire generations of performers.
Prior to the screening, queer advocate, community leader, and founder of The Rainbow Community of Canada, Naomi Nadea, joins TD Curator of Collections Zahra McDoom for a conversation exploring Shane’s fearless spirit, courage, and enduring influence.
