  • Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) announces the 2018 Speed Order - National Team Selection Trials will be held at Fanshawe Lake in London Ontario from June 22-24th, 2018.

Over 200 athletes will compete for the opportunity to represent their country on the international stage.

Speed Orders is a compulsory small boat trials event open to all rowers interested in seeking selection to a 2018 Canadian National Team. Successful athletes will be invited into a 3-day camp, followed by a time trial in London from June 23rd- 28th, 2018.

“This event is an important one for athletes across Canada,” said Adam Parfitt, Director, Coach and Athlete Pathways.  “It allows them to see how they’ve progressed in winter training and put their best foot forward for selection to one of the national team opportunities this summer.”

Results from the time trials will affirm athlete/crew selections for the following 2018 events: World Rowing Cup 3, World Rowing Under 23 Championships, World University Rowing Championships, and U21 Trans Tasman Regatta.

Junior rowers will complete their selection from June 26th to 30th in London for the following 2018 Events: World Rowing Junior Championships and CanAmMex Championships.

Team selection for the 2018 World Rowing Championships will be affirmed from the pool of athletes selected to the World Cup 3 team and those invited to train within the National Training Centres throughout the summer (June-September). Final selections for the 2018 World Rowing Championships will take place in Victoria, BC in early August.

“RCA’s High Performance Program is very excited to be working with the London Rowing Society to host the 2018 Speed Order Trials, in a high performance environment that houses RCA’s National Training Centre as well as a newly appointed NextGen HUB,” said RCA High Performance Director, Iain Brambell. “Bringing Canada’s best rowers together in one location serves as an amazing showcase for our sport and our rowing communities”.

RCA holds two National Rowing events annually including the Speed Order – National Team Selection Trials and the National Rowing Championships in Burnaby, BC in the fall.

One of the key priorities within RCA’s High Performance program plan was to invest resources in ensuring the location of these events were geographically and strategically distributed for potential national team members across all categories (Para, Junior, U23 and Senior).

“The London Rowing Society is very pleased to welcome Canada’s best rowers to Fanshawe Lake for the June Speed Orders prior to World Cup 3 in Lucerne,” said Dr. Michael Murphy, President of the London Rowing Society.  “Racing for spots on the team will be intense!”

The London Rowing Society will also play host to the ROWONTARIO Provincial Championships this year at Fanshawe Lake from July 28th and 29th.

Further information on the 2018 Speed Orders - National Team Selection Trials, will soon be posted on the RCA website.
