Sweet Lady is a premier jazz-funk ensemble from London, Ontario, Canada, celebrated for blending deep-pocket soul roots with the sophisticated, improvisational spirit of modern jazz. Originally formed as a high-energy vehicle for the city’s top players, the group built its reputation on a foundation of syncopated funk grooves, fluid soulful transitions, and dynamic live interplay. This sound was captured on their 2007 album, Pocket Monsters, a recording that showcased the band’s tight rhythmic precision, expansive improvisation, and deep commitment to groove-driven jazz-funk.

The quartet’s rhythm section is anchored by the intuitive chemistry of Western University alumnus Ian MacKay on drums with the melodic, grounding presence of Ian Koiter on bass. At the helm is veteran musical director Dean Harrison, whose keyboard work bridges the gap between classic funk textures and intricate jazz harmonies. While the band’s early identity was forged alongside original guitarist Garry Pattison, their recent reunion at the London Jazz Festival marked a new chapter with the addition of Chris Norley, a seasoned jazz guitarist and vocalist shaped by decades of active performance on the regional scene.
