In the early part of the 20th Century, remote areas of this land were being connected by cast iron, wood, and steel. Michael, an Irish immigrant, has taken work on a railroad being built through the wilderness of northern Quebec. The building must stop for the winter and he and another worker, Jerome, a Frenchman, have volunteered to remain at the camp to guard a partially constructed bridge which, when complete, will span a ravine. They will spend the next few months isolated. In their solitude, the two men are tempted and tested and their sanity stretched as ghosts from their past return to play tricks, tempt, and demand retribution.
