While it may seem unlikely for infantry soldiers to make archaeological discoveries, a 1973 training exercise in the Arctic led members of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR), to uncover the only human remains from the lost Franklin Expedition of 1845. During this expedition, the soldiers followed the route of HMS Terror and HMS Erebus. For this special tour—added by popular demand—the museum’s curator has selected the Northern Quest Fonds for public viewing.
