Le Vent du Nord & London Symphonia

Le Vent du Nord with London Symphonia The award winning, highly acclaimed band Le Vent du Nord and London Symphonia are teaming up to present an exuberant performance of traditional and contemporary Québécois music. Entitled 20 Printemps, the concert celebrates the group’s 20th anniversary. A leader in the renaissance of Quebec's traditional music, Le Vent Du Nord’s extensive repertoire draws from traditional sources and original compositions, while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music (rooted in the Celtic diaspora) with a broad range of global influences. Featuring button accordion, guitar and fiddle, the band’s sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy, which adds an earthy, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes.” — Boston Herald Not content with standard approaches to tradition, Le Vent du Nord has created a symphonic concert that builds a bridge between the symphonic and Quebec traditional music which, according to Voir Montreal, “puts all traditional folk naysayers to shame.” On stage these friends create intense, joyful and dynamic live performances that expand the bounds of tradition in striking global directions. This is the modern sound of tradition, a music of the here and now.

  • Joe Crookston on stage playing a guitar.

    Joe Crookston

Joe Crookston is a force of nature on stage. He is in his power AND he communes with his audience and welcomes them into the magic. From touring with Gordon Lightfoot, headlining major US festivals, receiving Folk Alliance International “Album of the Year,” releasing 15 new recordings on Nine Becomes One (2023) to being named Folk Alliance International Artist-in-Residence, Joe is on fire! He’s played with Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams, David Francey, John McCutcheon, John Gorka, Judy Collins and 100’s more. He’ll surprise you. He awakens the cynics. He’s plumbing for lyrical gold. His rhythm is infectious. In concert, he is funny as hell one moment and transcendent the next. HE BELIEVES IN STORIES: Come to a show. Visual, artful and surprising. Brooklyn in July, Oklahoma towns, rattlesnake tails, turbary thieves, meter maids and drunk roosters. At the end of the night, you’ll leave inspired. “The Long Note” is a phrase in Irish culture. “The Long Note” is that place of resonance and transcendence where the music, the voices, the instruments, and the community ALL come together and unite. THERE IS A LONG NOTE & JOE IS REACHING FOR IT: Whether he’s weaving through lap slide songs or fiddling an American Southern tune, he’ll draw you in. It happens every time. Watch a YouTube video…it’s fine, but it’s not the same. You gotta come to a show. With unwavering courage to be himself, he is literate, poignant and funny as hell.

London Pro Musica Choir presents: Carmina Burana

London Pro Musica Choir presents Carl Orff's masterpiece Carmina Burana. Carmina Burana is a cantata composed in 1935 and 1936 by Carl Orff, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection Carmina Burana. Its full Latin title is Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanae cantoribus et choris cantandae comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis ("Songs of Beuern: Secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magical images"). It was first performed by the Oper Frankfurt on 8 June 1937. It is part of Trionfi, a musical triptych that also includes Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. The first and last sections of the piece are called "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" ("Fortune, Empress of the World") and start with "O Fortuna". This work covers a wide range of topics, as familiar in the 13th century as they are in the 21st century: the fickleness of fortune and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, the joy of the return of spring, and the pleasures and perils of drinking, gluttony, gambling, and lust.
