About the Exhibition:
A figure of speech is a word or phrase that uses non-literal language to create an emotional impact, a vivid image, or a special effect. Speech, or language, describes the things we see and feel, giving rise to images. Images in turn, give rise to descriptive language. A visual work of art - or any work of art for that matter - manifests both. But is it the chicken or the egg? In this exhibition the “egg” or circle, sphere, and orb, frequently appear as the symbol of unity, wholeness, potential, and the cycles of life and nature. The rest of the elements in the composition are the “chicken.”
About the Artist:
The artist’s background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a career as a teacher. After retiring from teaching, the artist returned to their passion for art. Their most recent exhibitions were at TAP in 2024 and Westland Gallery in 2025.
Their work begins with an idea and evolves through the challenges of shaping an object to reflect that concept. The creative process often involves applying techniques, tools, and materials to solve problems and bring ideas to life. Their subject matter is inspired by a wide range of interests, including literature, music, film, philosophy, politics, visual art, and human behaviour. The artist views each finished work as an object at the intersection of intention and chance, ideas and materials, with the hope of creating something that engages and connects with the viewer.
