Unravel the world of knitting with our comprehensive 4-week knitting class at Hello Maker with Rachel from Nerdy Knotworkz! Over the course of four exciting sessions, you'll embark on a journey from knitting novices to skilled yarn enthusiasts. Starting with the fundamentals, Week 1 will dive into the history of this timeless craft and introduce you to the essentials of knitting. Discover the art of holding your needles in the English style and explore various stitches, along with tips on reading patterns and deciphering abbreviations. By the end of this session, you'll be well on your way to creating your own winter scarf! Through the other 3 weeks, you'll craft a cozy toque, a versatile market bag, and a stunning cabled kerchief, connecting with fellow crafters as we knit, purl, and stitch our way through the wonderful world of knitting. Oh - and, and sorry, but homework is required! ;) Sunday, October 1st, 12:30-1:30PM: Dive into the world of knitting, exploring its history, equipment, and materials. Learn the English style of needle-holding, discover stitch variations, and decode patterns and abbreviations. Understand yarn weights and pattern tracking. Get hands-on crafting a winter scarf in using acrylic yarn, mastering the knitted cast on, garter stitch, and tension. Until next week, you'll work towards completing your project! N?ote: We are skipping October 9th for Thanksgiving weekend! See you next weekend! Sunday, October 15th, 12:30-1:30PM: We'll kick off with a quick review and check-in on the homework progress, and learn the art of casting off and neatly weaving in those ends. We'll explore options like acrylic, wool, cotton, and more, but the highlight of the session will be starting a cozy toque using wool yarn (or optionally acrylic). You'll master the purl stitch, learn how to knit flat in stockinette stitch, and embrace the technique of decreases! Sunday, October 22nd, 12:30-1:30PM: We'll kick off with a check-in on homework progress to ensure everyone's on track. Then we'll learn a mattress stitch technique to complete our hat! Spending some time exploring various knit and purl stitches, we'll discover how to add captivating textures to your projects like ribbing, basketweave, and more! Our project this week is creating a charming market bag with soft and versatile cotton, and we'll learn yarn overs for lacework, and how to decrease with a slip knit method! Sunday, October 29th, 12:30-1:30PM: Our final week and our final check-in! We will spend 10 minutes sewing together the market bag pieces—the handle and two sides—for a polished result. Explore circular and double pointed needles, brioche knitting, entrelac, and fair isle techniques, and then we will begin creating a stunning cabled kerchief using cotton-linen, featuring cables, markers for guidance, and lifted increases for shaping.
