Sport Tourism Fanshawe Wins Bid to Host 2017 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship

  • By Tourism London

(London, Ontario) – In conjunction with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Fanshawe Athletics is proud to announce that they have been approved to host the 2017 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship.  The bid was unanimously approved by the CCAA as part of their mid-winter meetings being held in Ottawa, Ontario.

Fanshawe will host the event March 8-11, 2017 at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Eight men’s teams from across Canada will compete in the Championships and as hosts, the Fanshawe Falcons will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament.

“We are very appreciative of the CCAA for their support and awarding Fanshawe College this premiere event,” said Nathan McFadden, Manager of Athletics at Fanshawe. “Being selected to host this National Championship is a testament to the hard work done by our staff and the tremendous job by our Head Coach, Patrick Johnston in putting together one of the top volleyball programs in the country. Fanshawe Athletics is committed to excellence and winning national championships and we aim to achieve both at this event. We are also very excited to bring an event of this calibre to our great City of London, which is a volleyball hotbed in Canada.”

“I'm thrilled that Fanshawe has been given the opportunity to host the CCAA National Championship next season,” said Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Patrick Johnston. “It's huge for our program and the volleyball community in London as a whole. The exposure provided by a National Championship is tremendous and I'm very glad the staff in Athletics were able to secure the bid.”

Fanshawe has played host to a number of Provincial and National Championships, and will be hosting the 2016 CCAA Curling National Championships in March at the Highland Country Club. The 2016-17 season will also mark the 50th anniversary of Fanshawe Athletics.
