The Canadian Free Press was initially printed weekly in 1849 by William Sutherland before being sold to Josiah Blackburn in 1853 and renamed The London Free Press. Josiah Blackburn began publishing The London Free Press daily in 1855.

Today,  The London Free Press is the largest and most highly regarded paper in Southwestern Ontario, serving the counties of Middlesex, Elgin, Huron, Kent, Oxford, Lambton and Perth.
 
The London Free Press has received multiple honours in every major Ontario Newspaper Awards category, several nominations for National Newspaper Awards and two nominations for Michener Awards for public service journalism.
 
The London Free Press is published Monday to Saturday and available through home delivery, area retailers and vending boxes throughout the 7-county market area.
