Guest artists: Rei Hotoda, conductor; Janina Fialkowska, piano
For almost 50 years, Canadian concert pianist Janina Fialkowska has enchanted audiences and critics around the world. One of the foremost interpreters of Chopin, we are thrilled to welcome her in this performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
We pair this rare opportunity with Symphony No. 2 by another force of nature, Louise Farrenc. Through the sheer undeniable force of her artistry, she became the only woman to hold the post of Permanent Professor at the Paris Conservatory, carving out an enviable career as a performer and composer. Farrenc’s music has been overlooked for far too long. We are thrilled to perform her Symphony No 2, truly an orchestral masterwork.
Conductor Rei Hotoda, hailed as an inexhaustible dynamo with a deep commitment to reimagining the 21st-century concert experience, will make her London Symphonia debut.
