It's pretty obvious, Fanshawe Pioneer Village has gone to the dogs.

Or at least it will soon, as the attraction welcomes four-legged family members for A Day for the Dogs on Sunday, Sept. 22.

And according to Interpretation Coordinator Alison Deplonty, it’s one of the best days of the year.

“Our staff and volunteers are looking forward to the reactions at our treat stations,” she said with a laugh, adding while the village is considered dog-friendly year-round, A Day for the Dogs is a very special event indeed. “We have many annual pass holders who return year after year because the program offers them unlimited visits to the museum, as well as a unique location to walk their four-legged friend. But, this event is a really great way for us to use the museum to meet the needs of our community and promote local organizations and businesses.”

Visitors are invited to meet vendors and sign up for free contests with prizes provided by Ren’s Pets, while event partner Cruisin’ Paws Agility holds demonstrations throughout the day, inviting visiting pups to try out their agility equipment between shows.

Though it may not be Halloween just yet, furry friends will get the chance to try a little something new during the event. As a thank you to the lovely dog people of London, Fanshawe Pioneer Village (with the support of Two Spent Grains) will be hosting treat stations around the village, while sponsor Earth Rated will provide poop bags for guests (both, while supplies last).

In addition, those planning on attending the event are encouraged to sign up for a Fall Mini-Session with their pups, provided by Woodgate Photography. Sessions start at $20 + HST and can be booked in advance via

Fanshawe Pioneer Village is also proud to host several rescue organizations, including the London Humane Society and adoptable dogs from participating rescues will be on-site for visitors to meet.

“The village has been so lucky to have the support of the local rescues and businesses that have joined us over the years,” said Deplonty. “We always want to thank all of our sponsors and partners, visitors, and vendors, but especially the rescues that will be joining us for our five-year anniversary of A Day for the Dogs, this year.”

A Day for the Dogs takes over Fanshawe Pioneer Village (1424 Clarke Rd.) on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for kids aged 4-16, while those 3 and under are free.
