    London Symphonia: An Elegant Fire

Guest artist: Elinor Frey, cello soloist and leader. As a reaction to the dense introspection of the Baroque masters, a wave of composers in the middle of the 1700’s searched for a mode of expression that was lighter, more transparent, and melody driven. This simpler way of creating music manifested itself in a directness that allowed for a witty and elegant clarity to match the intellectual fashions of the day.

Getting Around London - Museum London

This exhibition of images from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries explores how Londoners traveled in and around the city over time. It begins by highlighting the Deshkan Zibii / Thames River. The Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee traveled its waters before and after the arrival of newcomers. The exhibition also explores horses, bicycles, automobiles, trains, and airplanes as modes of transportation, as well as the infrastructure and services that supported them. All of these shaped London as they connected the city and its residents to the world.

Kick Back, Cool Down, Drink Up: Cigar Boxes, Fans, and Silverware from the Collection

Museum London’s collection of cigar boxes, fans, and silverware embody important parts of the community’s history. Cigar boxes, with their colourful images, illustrate a part of London’s industrial past. Fans for their part, are fashion accessories, souvenirs, and, on occasion, promotional items. As for silverware, it was sometimes a gift to mark a milestone, and other times a status symbol, and always decorative.

Camille Turner and Camal Pirbhai: The New Brunswick 5

The New Brunswick 5 memorializes a 1786 wanted ad issued by the slaveholder Caleb Jones in what is today Fredericton, New Brunswick. Calling for the recapture of five Black North Americans whom Jones claimed as his property, the ad–of which there were countless other examples in 18th century British North America–demonstrates the normalcy of slavery in what is today Canada. Some of this country’s earliest Black settlers were enslaved people yet their histories, dating back 400 years, have been conspicuously absent from the national narrative.

    Resilient London: Meet Your Neighbours

This exhibition is about people. Not historical figures, or individuals from distant locations, but contemporary Londoners, here and now. You might know some of the 71 contributors, or have passed them on the street, sat beside them on the bus, waited in checkout lines with them, or exchanged ideas on social media. They could be family, friends, colleagues, or complete strangers; but they’re all our neighbours.
