Hometown talent added to Parkjam line-up

From big name acts to homegrown local talent, Parkjam has it covered.

After already creating a buzz thanks to its 7-day multi-genre line-up and headliners like Ice Cube, The Glorious Sons, and Deadmau5, organizers are offering up even more, with a side stage featuring the very best London has to offer.

Today Parkjam Music Festival, along with support from the Forest City London Music Awards (FCLMA), announced the hometown team, eager to step up and show festival-goers what they’ve got to offer.

According to festival director Demetri Manuel, adding a little local flavour to the mix was a no-brainer.

"There is so much musical talent in this city,” he said. “Not having a second stage dedicated to London and surrounding area talent would be a disservice to festival-goers and our music scene."

While rock night will see the addition of The Honest Heart Collective, Kasador, and Goodnight Sunrise, country night will welcome Genevieve Fisher, Melissa Megan and Patrick James Clark.

Alternative night has The Anti-Queens, Snacks? and The Filthy Radicals, pop night Saveria, Trading Alaska, and Chad Price, and hip-hop night takes on Sum-01, Ngajuana, and Lola.

Facilitation of those new additions comes thanks to the FCLMA, who, while they've been involved in Block Party in the past, stepped up in a whole new way this year.

Chair Mario Circelli couldn’t be happier, adding the Manuel family has never shied away from shining the spotlight on local talent.

“We’ve partnered on a number of different events, and this year (with Parkjam) we're getting the chance to curate stage,” he said with a smile. “We're really excited about it.”

In fact, a number of the homegrown acts have received FCLMA nominations in the past, with Sum-01 taking home a win this year in the hip-hop category, as well as Genevieve Fisher for country.

This fall, with the traditional Block Party weekend expanding into the new Harris Park festivities, Parkjam has named the FCLMA, and their hall of fame specifically, as the festival beneficiary — meaning part of the proceeds from the event will go to support the Forest City staple.

But really, it all comes down to the music.

“It’s going to be so amazing for all of that local talent to be part of a platform the magnitude of Parkjam, playing to thousands of people,” said Circelli. “These artists are going to have the opportunity to perform to a whole new audience they may have not had an opportunity to reach in the past. It's a perfect fit.”
