By Benjamin Britten

Britten’s The Turn of the Screw is of the most dramatically appealing of all English operas. Based on the Henry James novella of the same name, it has been performed throughout the world. Thematically the story gives a central role to a line borrowed from W. B. Yeats’ poem The Second Coming “The ceremony of innocence is drowned.” Music and dialogue in English.
