Punk rock pioneer, Cherie Currie of the Runaways added to Rock ‘n’ Con line-up!
You can catch up with Cherie Currie at Rock 'n' Con on June 9 & 10 where she will be on hand to sign autographs and take photos with fans. For those lucky enough to score a VIP Experience ticket will also get to see Cherie on stage at the official Rock 'n' Con after party at Rum Runners. Rockin' the after party stage with Cherie will be legendary rocker Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and as a special treat for fans, London's own Morgan Lander of Kittie will be belting out a couple of her favourite classic rock covers songs. And you never know who else may be finding their way on stage for this intimate and exclusive Rock 'n' Con experience as the big event draws near.
With such iconic lead singers on the stage you need a stellar band to back them up. We in London are fortunate enough to have great musicians that are more than up for the task. The RnC band is comprised of accomplished local musicians who perform with popular rock bands Helix, The Headstones, Buffalo Brothers, Syre and Before the Damned. They are; Glen 'Archie' Gamble (drums and musical director), Rick VanDyke (guitar), John Patterson (vocals), Chris Caron (bass), Paul Sguazzin (guitar).
Cherie Currie Bio:
Currie was the teenage lead vocalist for the all-female rock band the Runaways with bandmates Joan Jett and Lita Ford. All of whom we are still very familiar with today as their solo careers are still going strong. The band was formed in Los Angeles, in the mid-to-late 1970s and immediately launched into the punk rock music scene as a force to be reckoned with. Bomp! magazine described Cherie as "the lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot".
She recorded three albums with the Runaways (The Runaways, Queens of Noise and Live in Japan), Currie went on to be a solo artist. She signed a contract with Mercury saying she would record four records, but she left the Runaways after the third album, thus she was obligated to record another album whether she liked it or not. She recorded it solo and the result was Beauty's Only Skin Deep for Polygram Records
Then she teamed up with her identical twin sister, Marie Currie, and released an album with her. They released a duet "Since You Been Gone" which charted number 95 on US charts. Their band was called Cherie and Marie Currie.
She is also well known for her role in the movie Foxes where she starred alongside Jody Foster. She received strong reviews in her acting debut and found herself acting in many other smaller roles in movies such as The Twilight Zone and Rich Girl.
In 2010 the Runaways movie was released with Dakota Fanning portraying Cherie and Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, the movie pays homage to the band’s music and the path they carved for all female rockers to follow.
This is the weekend to rock them all!
