Idlewyld Inn

Idlewyld Inn

Ask inn keeper Christine Kropp about the Idlewyld Inn in London, Ontario and she’ll immediately tell you about the history, architecture and Victorian décor of this 23-room historic property originally built in 1878 as a private residence for a wealthy local businessman and politician. Sure the room rates, seasonal packages and dinner and breakfast menu (in either the stately dining room or outdoor garden courtyard) are important, but they are secondary to the passion the owners have for recreating an elegant Victorian property complete with the genteel customer service reflective of the era.

Quiet opulence defines the interior décor of this inn, named one of Ontario’s finest. Threaded throughout the building are meticulously restored, thick, ornate, wood mouldings, punctuated with leaded glass windows on the first and second floors. A massive restored central staircase greets visitors when the front doors are thrust open. Both premium king suites have fireplaces, and each room is uniquely decorated to reflect the aesthetic of the time, and demand for modern conveniences such as flat screen televisions and nightly turn down service.
