Watch as History Comes Alive at Fanshawe Pioneer Village

Watch as history comes alive at Fanshawe Pioneer Village

Spend a day in the 19th century at Fanshawe Pioneer Village and watch as the past comes alive before your eyes through daily demonstrations of 19th century trades, farming practices, domestic chores and social pastimes by costumed interpreters. Each visit promises something new to explore and discover.

Fanshawe Pioneer Village tells the story of rural life in Middlesex County from 1820 to 1920. Original houses, churches, a woodworking shop, blacksmith shop, schools and more complete the rural landscape. Denfield General Store and Post Office, Harmer Sawmill, London Brewery and Doctor Jones’ office presents an urban community at the turn of the 20th century.

The Denfield General Store operates as a full gift shop offering a unique variety of local handcrafted gifts, heritage reproductions and souvenirs. On special event days, catch a ride on a wagon pulled by horses or a vintage tractor. Drop by the Pioneer Village Café for a delicious lunch featuring homemade soups, salads and breads, all made with local produce.

Opening day for the 51st season of Fanshawe Pioneer Village is Saturday, May 15, 2010. Highlights of the year include the London and Middlesex Children's Water Festival, May 18-21; “The Miller and His Men,” a Theatre Royale melodrama last presented in  London in 1843, Aug. 4-6 and 11-13; and “The Donnelly Massacre,” a play by Jason Rip, to be performed in October.
