A Tasty Tour of the Labatts Brewhouse

OK, there’s simply no denying it: Canadians love their beer. And in London, there’s no shortage of places to enjoy a tall cold one.

But did you ever wonder how that bottle, can or keg made its way to your favorite watering hole or perhaps into your refrigerator? If so, then you’re the type of person who would enjoy a tour of Labatt’s state-of-the-art brewhouse. The Labatt company has been brewing beer in London since 1847, and my how they've perfected their trade!
The 45-minute walking tour of the production and packaging facility begins and ends in the Labatt Beer Institute - Amber Lounge, complete with a spectacular bar and interesting displays of beer memorabilia. Sampling occurs at the conclusion of the tour, when each participant can taste five freshly tapped beers. Put side by side, you can really taste, smell and see the difference.

The tour takes you through several buildings and provides an excellent overview of the brewing and packaging process. Ever wonder why beer bottles have white rings on the outside or how they remove the labels from returned bottles and sanitize them before they are reused? Confused by your favorite beer’s “born on date”? Your knowledgeable tour guide has all the answers.

Tours of the Labatt facility are just $10 per person and are offered Monday through Friday. Set aside two hours so you can thoroughly enjoy the tour and sampling. As an added bonus, participants also receive a commemorative Labatt T-shirt.
An exhibit featuring a 1947 Streamliner Truck and a 1919 Keg Truck was recently added to the tour. Be sure to bring your camera for an opportunity to photograph your guests alongside these unique vehicles.
