Exciting theatre news is coming out of nearby London, Ontario, where Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” is being held over through Jan. 7 at the beautiful Grand Theatre.
“The excitement continues! How wonderful to see the range of audiences delighting in the magic of Cinderella. We are delighted to give theatre-goers the opportunity to experience the joy of this story,” said Susan Ferley, artistic director of The Grand Theatre.
“A holdover is such an exciting announcement. We are thrilled with the response to Cinderella and so happy to offer extra performances for families to enjoy during the first week of January,” added Deb Harvey, executive director of The Grand.
Due to its overwhelming success, seven additional performances have been scheduled: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3; 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4; 1 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5; 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6; and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7. Virtually unchanged since the last century, Eldon House features family heirlooms, furnishings and priceless treasures of London’s Harris family, as well as a beautiful 19th century-style garden. Built in 1834 for John and Amelia Harris, this historic home remained in the family until 1960 when it was donated to the City of London. The world’s top synchronized skating teams are set to compete at 2011 Synchro in the City — London Synchrofest International, taking place December 28-29 in nearby London, Ontario. Presented by Freedom 55 Financial, teams will compete for $50,000 in prize money!
This is the first time this amount of prize money has been offered to teams in competition. Countries currently committed to sending world-class teams to the event are Canada, the United States of America, Japan, Russia and Finland.
“This is a groundbreaking event that we hope will stimulate the local economy and profile more fully the athletic skill and artistry of synchronized skating,” said John Winston, general manager of Tourism London. “This is an exciting, creative initiative and we are pleased to offer this family event over the holiday season.”
The competition takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 28 (short program) and Thursday, December 29 (free program) in the John Labatt Centre, located at 99 Dundas St. in downtown London.
