We will be holding our annual TomatoFest in the Covent Garden Market Square on Saturday, September 18, 11–2 pm. Join us for a tasting of over 40 heritage varieties of tomatoes, specialty dishes created by some of London’s finest local chefs, family live entertainment, education and recipe!

The London City Farm is a not-for-profit organization dedicating to fostering organic, sustainable cultivation of food in an urban setting. We operate two plots, one at Fanshawe Pioneer Village, and east of the city, on which we cultivate heritage varieties of vegetables in a sustainable manner, free of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizer. We believe that in doing this we are preserving not only the past, but also the future of food.

We support the project by selling produce to local restaurants who share our commitment to locally grown, organic food, at the Covent Garden Market on Thursdays and Saturdays, at the Masonville Farmers’ Market on Saturdays, and at the Western Fair on Saturdays.

We are also dedicated to skill sharing, employing youth who are interested in learning the art of sustainable cultivation, and holding educational workshops about sustainable growing methods and heritage vegetables.

TomatoFest
We are best known for the unique varieties of tomatoes that we cultivate. Most people don’t realize that there is a world of variety beyond what they see in the grocery stores: yellow pineapple tomatoes, green zebra tomatoes, tomato varieties with picturesque names such as “Mortgage Lifter”; these varieties have been cultivated for generations, and are in danger of being lost because they don’t fit well into a mass-market food system.
